FLY

Though yet another San Juan Worm recipe might seem overkill in
the world of this overanalyzed pattern, this complex version is
highly effective under pre runoff conditions and throughout much
of the rest of the season on waters with ample aquatic vegetation.
Though the bead may simply add necessary weight to get this aquatic
worm imitation to the bottom, it seems that the use of colored
beads can add seemingly magical powers to this fly at times.
This fly, if we dare call it that, is tied in two stages. First
put the bead on the hook. Then tie the back half of the worm -
in order to finish this step, wrap the ultra chenille around the
hook (about half way up the hook shank) and tie off. Tie a half
hitch, clip the thread and chenille, slide the bead back onto the
trimmed chenille and move the front half. |
After restarting the
thread, tie in the front section of ultra chenille behind the eye
of the hook, wrapping back over it all the way to the bead which
helps to keep it in place. Move thread back towards the eye and
wrap chenille around the hook shank up to the eye. Just as simple
as that.
