FLY
GALLERY
This fairly basic adult midge pattern from Blue Ribbon Flies is
easy to tie and is an extremely accurate imitation of the natural
insects whose hatches are often prolific during the month of March.
Though not highly visible when compared to some other midge patterns,
this fly rides in the water with a low profile that fish find appealing.
A bit of bright zelon or even foam can be added on the top of the
fly as a visible indicator or this fly can simply be fished behind
a larger dry. When trout aren’t willing to be fooled by bigger,
bushier patterns or when they are focused on single insects rather
than midge clusters, the Zelon Midge in a great choice. |
Aside from it’s small size, tying this pattern is fairly straightforward.
Tiers should note that standard strands of zelon are typically too bulky
to keep this midge pattern in the correct proportions. Separate or remove
fibers from the strands to get the amount of material that you need for
both the tail and wings.
