FLY GALLERY

In the month of the notorious Mother’s Day Caddis Hatch (brachycentrus occidentalis)on the Madison and Yellowstone Rivers, this high floating caddis pattern is a must have in the box. With the natural floatation provided by the CDC feathers and the buoyant qualities of the elf hair on top, this bug floats like a cork. Obviously, this pattern can be effective in imitating a variety of caddis species however those concentrating on Mother’s Day varieties should focus on dun or gray dubbed bodies and hackle.

There are no tricks to tying this fly - do so as you would with a standard elk hair caddis. Adding the CDC prior to tying on the elk hair wing is the only additional step. Those looking to improve the visibility of this pattern on the water or in the midst of large quantities of natural insects could tie in a small piece of orange or white foam on top the elk hair. The fish won’t mind.
