FLY

When it comes to all purpose wet flies, the Diamond
Soft Hackle is hard to beat. This general attractor pattern works
well throughout much of the season and can be fished effectively
on a dead drift or with a swing. As our fall mayfly hatches get
underway during the month of September, this is a great fly to
have in the box, particularly in smaller sizes. Fished prior too
and during an emergence, this pattern can work wonders. Tied with
a glass bead or without any bead at all, it’s an excellent
dropper below a dry.
Tie this bug like any other
soft hackle pattern. In order to make sure the peacock thorax
is secure, it’s not a bad idea to rib the silver wire all
the way to the bead. Any blemishes this causes in the thorax
area should be hidden by the hackle. Slightly oversized, sparse
hackles work well. |
