Runoff is upon us. As it always does, warm weather has cut loose the mountain snowpack and most rivers are high and muddy. This year however, with an above average snowpack, the runoff is particularly impressive. While I’ve been hanging out in the clear waters of the dam regulated Missouri for the past three weeks, I did get to Armstrongs spring creek today and managed to sneak a peek at the Yellowstone. It was impressive to say the least. Hard to comprehend flows of 32000 cfs when we are accustomed to fishing it at 2000 or lower for much if the year. And while we won’t be on the Yellowstone any time soon, we still have options. The spring creeks are fishing well, the Madison is high but still fishable and the Missouri has been outstanding. Could be time for some lake fishing as well. Check out the photos… Some of the Yellowstone this morning and some ad Armstrongs as well. Hard to believe that only about 200 yards of solid ground separates the two.
