Since early May we’ve been waiting for runoff to subside. And while the snowpack and rain that has caused it is welcomed, we’ve all been chomping at the bit, anxiously awaiting the moment that all of our area options become available. That time is now. While the Missouri continues to boast fantastic fishing, both the lower and upper Madison are prime as are the Gallatin, Jefferson and now, as of today, the Yellowstone. While on the Madison above Ennis today I saw 3 varieties of mayflies, caddis, and stoneflies ranging from yellow sallies and golden stones to salmonflies. A virtual smorgasbord to say the least. The fish know it and have been taking advantage of the situation. Looking forward to my first day on the Yellowstone tomorrow since the beginning of May.
