Was treated to a calm day on the Madison Friday which, given the changing weather patterns and significant winds that often accompany them, was a very pleasant change of pace. The midge hatch was strong throughout the day and while we did find an occasional riser, the bright sun seemed to keep most surface action at bay. So we wormed em – indeed the old San Juan worm was the ticket along w a soft hackle pheasant tail #16 which I suspect was mistaken for emerging midge pupae. Have been catching a number if westslope cutthroats out there this spring – must have moved in from Cherry Creek.
Seems the forecast is improving by the day. Looking forward to a good weekend which I suspect will include some time on the Yellowstone.
