Just yesterday the last bit of what had been a sizable back yard snowpack vanished into the dirt with temps rising to almost 70. Not a year was shed. We are ready for some heat, winter was long and we had our fill.
On the river, rising temps have had a significant impact on the situation. Freestones such as the Yellowstone, Jefferson and Big Hole all are on the rise and unsettled if not downright muddy. The heat has temporarily killed is there.
On tailwaters, such as the Madison, the rising water temps have done nothing but make fishing even better than it already was. We had excellent fishing above Ennis yesterday and a sizable Baetis hatch and some good dry fly fishing on the lower river today. Cooler weather for the next few days could bring the Yellowstone back into shape by the weekend.
