Plan A was simple – pick up my anglers, head to the Madison, rig the rods, launch the boat, find some rising fish, catch them like crazy then head home. But a changing forecast and predicted windspeeds that had gone from a little to a lot, threatened to destroy this ingenious plan of attack.

After a number of years on the river one learns to be flexible, to adapt and work with the cards that are dealt on any given day. This being said, I rarely  leave the house without a full series of thoughts and ideas of how we might approach our day on the water. With numerous plans, one or two good ones and a few others to back them up it, something is bound to work. In my experience however, relying on anything past Plan C is generally problematic.

This morning as we discussed the potential for the day, we decided that if using the boat would be torturous and futile, then maybe we shouldn’t use the boat but instead launch a land based assault at a local creek. That we did and it could not have been more pleasant. Short casts, manageable wind and even a few fish. Plan B worked this time….who knows what will happen tomorrow.DSC_0012DSC_0005DSC_0016
